BANK PO REASONING

The Reasoning Ability section is a major decider in Bank PO exams like IBPS PO and SBI PO. It tests analytical, logical, and decision-making skills under strict time limits, heavily featuring Puzzles and Seating Arrangements, which typically make up over 50% of the paper. High-Weightage Topics 1. Puzzles & Seating Arrangements: Floor/box-based puzzles, scheduling, linear/circular arrangements. Requires rapid data assimilation and multiple-case elimination. 2. Syllogisms: Deductive reasoning using Venn diagrams or possibility-based logic. 3. Inequalities (Direct & Coded): Formula-driven questions testing relations like >, ≥, <, and ≤. 4. Coding-Decoding: Identifying letter shifting, positional, and new-pattern symbolic logic. Moderate to Low-Weightage Topics 1. Blood Relations: Family tree diagramming problems. 2. Direction Sense: Navigation and shortest distance calculations. 3. Order & Ranking: Position-based logic and sequences. 4. Machine Input-Output: Finding the shifting or rearranging logic of a number/word sequence. 5. Data Sufficiency: Determining if given statements provide enough info to answer a question. 6. Logical/Critical Reasoning: Statement-conclusion, assumptions, cause and effect. Exam Format (Prelims vs. Mains) 1. Prelims: Features 35-40 questions to be solved in 20-25 minutes. The difficulty is usually Easy to Moderate, with a strong emphasis on speed and accuracy. 2. Mains: The difficulty escalates to Moderate to Difficult. It includes more advanced puzzle matrices, data sufficiency, and analytical reasoning. Preparation Tips 1. Start with basics: Do not start directly with advanced puzzles. First master topics like Inequalities, Coding, and Syllogisms for quick marks. 2. Time Management: Allocate exactly 15-20 minutes for miscellaneous topics and save 25 minutes strictly for Puzzles and Seating Arrangements. 3. Daily Practice: Solve at least 3-5 high-level puzzles daily to improve reading speed and constraint management.

BANK PO QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE

The syllabus is broadly categorized into four main components 1. Simplification & Approximation: Tests your ability to quickly calculate percentages, fractions, and square/cube roots. 2. Number Series & Quadratic Equations: Identifying missing/wrong numbers in a series and solving ax² + bx + c = 0 equations to establish relationships between variables x and y. 3. Data Interpretation (DI): Forms the bulk of the exam (especially in Mains). Requires analyzing raw data presented as pie charts, bar graphs, radar graphs, or caselets. Arithmetic Word Problems: Covers core topics like: 1. Percentages, Ratios & Proportions, Averages, and Partnerships Profit & Loss and Simple/Compound Interest Time, Speed & Distance, Boats & Streams, and Trains Time & Work, Pipes & Cisterns Permutation, Combination & Probability Mensuration (basic 2D and 3D geometry) 2. Exam Structure Prelims Exam: Typically contains 35 questions to be solved in 20 minutes. It relies heavily on Simplification, Number Series, and basic DI to test speed. Mains Exam: Features higher-level DI and Data Sufficiency. Questions are logic-driven and require combining multiple arithmetic concepts. 3. Preparation Strategy Speed Math: Memorize tables up to 30, squares up to 40, and cubes up to 30. Learn fraction-to-percentage conversions. Topic Selection: Do not attempt everything. Focus on high-yielding topics first (Simplification, Quadratic Equations) before tackling advanced arithmetic.
